Dr. Natalicio will be remembered by many as a pioneer in higher education. During her record-breaking 31-year presidency, she dedicated her life to serving UTEP and the greater El Paso community, all while focused on increasing access to excellent higher education.
Dr. Natalicio’s tireless leadership grew enrollment, created new programs, and positioned UTEP as a premier Hispanic-Serving Institution. In an interview for the UTEP Magazine in spring of 2019, Dr. Natalicio was asked what she considered to be UTEP’s greatest success during her presidency. She responded, “We’ve been especially successful in figuring out how to create opportunities for economically disadvantaged students and how to offer a university environment that both supports their needs and provides them with a level of quality that will ensure that when they graduate, they are able to compete with their peers anywhere.”
As a community, we must strive to continue Dr. Natalicio’s legacy around access and excellence.
This is why we have established the Diana Natalicio Institute for Hispanic Student Success Gift Fund. Donations to this fund will support the founding of The Diana Natalicio Institute for Hispanic Student Success at UTEP. The Natalicio Institute will further the mission of UTEP by producing research to promote student success, developing leaders for America’s Hispanic-serving universities, and serving as a national resource for inclusive excellence.
We hope you will join us in honoring the memory of Dr. Natalicio as we reflect on all she accomplished for the University. In her words, “No gift is too small to make a difference.”
