Support Student Scholarships in Memory of Adrian Herrera

Adrian was a graduate of UTEP where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. As a college student and UTEP research intern, Adrian taught and tutored high school students while pursuing a higher education and pushing for co-op and internship opportunities. He was a loving father and can be best described as a kind, humble and caring person. He attracted many people with his warm, unfiltered personality, his jokes, and his knowledge for many things. Throughout his distinguished career as a U.S. Patent and Trademark Examiner and as a Space Defense Systems Engineer, Adrian continued to eagerly volunteer his time, talent, and treasure in supporting students and fellow engineers across the country by participating in panel discussions, attending career conferences, hosting mock interviews, and much more. As a champion for minorities in STEM, Adrian served as President for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers in Central Florida (SHPE), which is the nation's largest association dedicated to fostering Hispanic leadership in the STEM field. He was recognized for his successful outreach efforts in recruiting and mentoring young people entering the engineering industry with a professional breadth, and freely dedicated himself to the mission and vision of SHPE. He fully enjoyed what he did and was a true servant leader to his community.

Adrian was an advocate for continued education and went on to obtain a Master of Science Degree in Systems Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology. Although he left this world too soon and was never able to fulfil his dream of pursuing a doctoral degree in Engineering Leadership, Adrian lived a wonderfully blessed life filled with academic, professional, and personal striving. He valued the importance of higher education and believed that we should never stop learning. To honor his contributions and continue his legacy of supporting students, the Adrian Herrera Memorial Endowed Scholarship was created to help students achieve their academic goals and fulfil their potential. This fund will provide scholarships to students in economic need who are pursuing an undergraduate degree of any major at the University of Texas at El Paso. I hope you will join us in celebrating Adrian’s life by contributing to this extremely important and meaningful fund.

Thank you in advance for your heartfelt generosity.
