As a beloved program manager of the Master of Arts in Leadership Studies (MLS) Program, Steve Telless was a transformational force in the lives of many students and colleagues alike.
Having served UTEP for 18 years, Steve was a UTEP brand and is best described as a supportive friend, mentor and colleague who dedicated his service to helping students of the MLS program achieve academic success.
So much so that he understood the need for graduate tuition support and established an endowment that provides scholarships for students who are in economic need and are pursuing a graduate degree in the MLS Leadership and Community Engagement Program.
Steve consistently provided excellent academic advising to current, potential, and future students of the Master of Arts in Leadership Studies (MLS) program – a program that provides professional education for students interested in leadership careers and consists of a curriculum designed to produce professionals capable of intelligent and creative analysis, communication, and action in leadership functions.
As a retired Command Sergeant Major who served in the US Military for more than 27 years, Steve was greatly connected with military students, providing guidance with admission, registration, graduation, and related important processes of each student’s academic life. One student in the program referred to him as “a valuable ally” – an apt description for Steve who was invested in the success of those he mentored.
To continue his legacy of inspiring and supporting students, the MLS program is raising funds toward the Leadership Studies Program Fund which assists future leaders with tuition and graduate program scholarship awards.
