In celebration of their 25th anniversary, The Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens (CMCDG) have launched a crowdfunding campaign to support the Gardens’ mission to welcome visitors and educate them about the Chihuahuan Desert’s vast biodiversity and abundance.
Inaugurated in the autumn of 1999, the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens have welcomed countless visitors annually, including international guests and school children from the region.
The Gardens have a profound impact on the community, serving as a living classroom for students, a research site for scientists, and a serene retreat for nature enthusiasts. They play a crucial role in promoting environmental education and conservation, fostering a deeper appreciation for the unique flora of the Chihuahuan Desert. The Gardens also support local biodiversity and provide a habitat for various wildlife species, making them an invaluable resource for both people and nature.
Featuring an impressive array of more than 600 species of plants native to or acclimated to the Chihuahuan Desert, visitors have the unique opportunity to view these plants in their natural habitat and gain inspiration to use native plants in their own yards. The spring and fall FloraFest native plant sales give El Pasoans an opportunity to buy native plants while supporting this key fundraiser that sustains the maintenance and functioning of the Gardens. However, we need your support to continue our vital mission of presenting the distinctive charm of desert plants to the community it serves.

The Centennial Museum is also organizing an exhibit titled “Cultivating Your Home: Embracing Chihuahuan Desert Diversity,” set to open on October 12. This exhibit will educate the community on the benefits of incorporating native plants into our environments. This initiative seeks to create a tranquil haven for the UTEP community and to reinforce our connection with the desert landscape that we cherish as our home.
