Golden Milestones: UTEP’s Clinical Laboratory Science Program celebrates 50 years!

As we celebrate five decades of impactful contributions to healthcare, we are thrilled to launch a special fundraiser aimed at fostering continued student success and program growth. Our goal is to support various student success initiatives, including the development of a book fund, emergency financial assistance for second bachelor’s students in medical laboratory science, educational initiatives, and stipends for students attending clinical rotations outside the El Paso-Las Cruces area.

Since its establishment in 1975, originally under the name Medical Technology program, the Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) program has evolved to meet the growing demands of the healthcare industry and has been instrumental in training skilled laboratory professionals who contribute significantly to the healthcare system. Notably, 80-90% of laboratory scientists in the region are UTEP graduates, and our program’s commitment to excellence is reflected in our graduates.

Today, we are seeking funds to continue supporting our comprehensive student success initiatives and continue feeding the rich history of excellence in medical laboratory education. Additionally, we plan to host a reception and picture gallery in April 2025 that will be open to all our supporters from hospitals and the community. Attendees will have the opportunity to support our program and invest in the future of healthcare.

Help us celebrate the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Program’s 50th anniversary by contributing to our $10,000 fundraising goal! Your generous gift will help us:

  • Develop a book fund to provide all students with access to current MLS review books.
  • Expand financial award opportunities to attract and support the next generation of medical laboratory professionals, including second bachelor’s students who may not qualify for financial aid.
  • Fund special events and educational initiatives, including those related to the ASCP board of certification.
  • Provide stipends for students attending clinical rotations outside the El Paso-Las Cruces area.

Together, we can ensure that the University of Texas at El Paso remains at the forefront of medical laboratory science education for another 50 years. As we continue to adapt and grow, your contribution will make a lasting impact on the future of healthcare. Thank you for your support!

Our crowdfunding campaign ends on December 20 at 11:59 p.m. MT. Don’t miss your chance to contribute to this meaningful effort.

If the fundraising goal for this campaign is exceeded, additional donations will contribute to various student success initiatives through the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Gift Fund.
